Abstract
668,818. Self-tapping screws. KERBKONUS-VERTRIEBS GES. Nov. 27, 1950 [Aug. 11, 1950], No. 28893/50. Class 83 (iii). [Also in Group XXV] A bush with external and internal threads over its whole length has one or more slots 4 at one end over a tapered portion a and full-diameter portion b so that, on insertion into a plain hole, the bush has a self-tapping action and is also contracted inwards so that the bush itself, and a bolt or screw screwed into it, are locked in position. The slots extend past at least one full-form thread and the number of tapered threads is greater than the number of full-form threads; the internal and external threads may be of different types and pitches. Corrosion-protection may be applied to the bush and it may be case-hardened or fully hardened. The bush is inserted by screwing a bolt having a plain extension at its lower end into the internal threads and rotating the assembly by means such as a drilling machine.
