Abstract

548,650. Locking bolts and nuts. HOLTZ, E. T. Nov. 24, 1941, No. 15109. [Class 89 (i)] Bolts have a portion split and expanded to form a resilient portion and the crests of the threads over the expanded portion are removed to bring the external size to a uniform diameter. When the nut is applied, or when the bolt is screwed into a tapped hole the expanded part is closed so that the roots of the threads are now at a uniform diameter. In Fig. 2 the slit 24 is expanded at 25 and the crests of the threads are removed at 26. In modifications the end portion of the bolt is not slit and two slits at right angles are provided. As applied to locking a screw 15, Fig. 1, an end portion 19 of opposite hand of thread is slit and expanded at 21, the crests are removed at 26, and the threads at the extreme end 22 of the resilient section are slightly tapered spirally.
