Abstract
668,482. Dynamo-electric machine casings. DEHN, S. G. (Louis Allis Co.). Jan. 3, 1950, No. 145/50. Class 35. To prevent the accumulation of dirt &c. on a motor casing the casing comprises a pair of spaced apart end sections 7, 8 and a central inverted U-shaped section 6, the three sections being so joined together as to form an unbroken continuous surface and the walls of all the sections extend downwards to the level of the casing bottom 22 which is made to fit on and fixed to a supporting surface. The end sections 7, 8 have bottom walls 20, 21 respectively meeting the casing bottom 22. The three sections 6, 7, 8 are complementary to one another and are held assembled by tie bolts 16. Cooling is effected by the flow of air produced by the conjoint action of two fans 30, 31, the former being cast integrally with the rotor 13 and the latter secured to the shaft at the other end of the motor. Annular air baffles 32, 33 are provided near the fans so as to direct the flow of air which enters through a screened opening 25 and discharges out of another screened opening 26.
