Abstract

659,257. Hasp fastenings. HOBBS HART & CO., Ltd., and EDWARDS, A. E. July 18, 1949, No. 18832. [Class 44] A hasp fastening comprises a hasp bar 2 pivoted to a fixed plate 1 on one part and provided with a rotatable disc 5 apertured to receive a staple 12 secured to a base 15 rotatably mounted in a plate 17 on the other part. The disc 5 consists of two parts riveted together at 9 providing a peripheral groove 10 engaging a peripheral rib 6 of the opening in the hasp 2. The base 15 of the staple has a stepped flange engaging in a corresponding rebated periphery in the plate 17. By this means the staple is freely rotatable when the hasp is locked, e.g. by a padlock, so that an attempt to wrench the lock off merely causes the staple to turn.
