Abstract

650,463. Endless conveyers. RAE, J. S. Dec. 8, 1947, No. 32273. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group I] In a beet-harvesting machine a wheeled frame 2 carries a transverse slat conveyer 1 divided into two parallel parts 1a, 1b in juxtaposition, so that beets can be placed upon the conveyer in such a position that a circular saw 4 between the parts 1a, 1b severs the tops from the beets. The severed tops are discharged on to the ground while the beets pass on to a cleaning elevator 5. The slats 14, 15 of the slat conveyer are of triangular cross-section so that the beets rest between them and are mounted on chains 16, 17, 18. The machine is coupled to a tractor from which the conveyers and saw are driven by a power take-off. For transport the machine can be towed in the direction of conveyer 1 by removing the wheels 6 and 7 and remounting them on the ends of the retracted draw-bar 8. Specification 650,523 is referred to.
