[Also in Group XXX] In the screening apparatus of the parent Specification a further endless conveyer 19 is arranged alongside the lower edge of the transversely inclined screening conveyer 15 of openwork type and receives through a funnel 22 in the lower guard plate 50 directly opposite the head of the delivery conveyer 10, root crops which have rolled transversely down the conveyer 15, earth clods being stopped by the upstanding elements of the conveyer 15 and carried transversely away. The conveyer 19 then carries the crops upwardly beyond the end of the conveyer 15 to a harvester from which all the conveyers are driven by a shaft 42, gearbox 41 and chain drive, bevel gears at the ends of the transverse drive shafts 29, 30 driving the conveyers 15, 19. The sprockets 34, 33 on the drive shafts 29, 30 and the sprocket 37 may be changeable to vary the relative speeds of the conveyers. Attendants standing on platforms on either side of the base frame 11 for the conveyers may pick out crops or stones inadvertently carried forward by the conveyers 15, 19. Further a handle 48 may be operated to act through a bell-crank 45 and link 43 to vary the inclination of the conveyer 15 about the shaft 29 acting as a pivot, even while the conveyer is in motion.
