Abstract

648,353. Rope grips; endless conveyers. HUWOOD MINING MACHINERY, Ltd., and BAINBRIDGE, F. Feb. 12, 1948, Nos. 4140 and 4141. [Classes 78 (i) and 78 (ii)] [Also in Group XXI] Each section of a scraper conveyer comprises a plate 21 to the top and bottom of each side of which are bolted Z-section angle bars 19 whilst a U-section angle-bar 24 is bolted to the outer edges of such a section to form a guide-way for a planer unit to move along. When the sections are assembled, the conveyer projects out at each end into gates 4, 5, the projecting portions being supported on wheeled carriages 6, 7. The centre portion of the conveyer not supported by the carriages is advanced to a new face by hydraulic jacks 66, whilst the carriages may be advanced either by jacks or cable haulage. The frame 6 carries the driving motors 49 of the conveyer and also a motor 55 for the endless .cable 46 of the planer 2 which runs on the side frames 24 of the conveyer 3. The cable 46 at the carriage 7 passes over a vertical pulley 61, thence around a horizontal pulley 62, and back over a vertical pulley 61, the pulley 62 being mounted in a frame so that the cable tension can be adjusted when a screw assembly moves the frame. The conveyer sprockets on this carriage are also adjustably mounted. To connect the planer to the cable 46, the clamp parts 67, 68 are operated by a manually-operated hydraulic jack 73. The planer may be of the type disclosed in Specifications 648,351 or 648,352, [both in Group XXI].
