666,567. Endless-chain mining-machines. RITCHIE, C. July 22, 1949. [July 22, 1948] No. 19622/48. Class 68 (i). [Also in Group X] In a mine roof support comprising extensible pillars adapted to yield at a given load a flexible circulating track 7, passing round chain wheels 5, engages the mine roof and a similar track 11, passing round chain wheels 10, engages the floor. The chain wheels 5 are carried on rams 2 in the pillars, and when the rams are forced outwards by fluid pressure the track 7 is pressed against the roof 8 by a shoe 6 and the track 11 against the floor 19, and circulation of the tracks by driving at least one of their chain wheels will move the support towards the face 20, the movement being assisted, where the roof slopes upwards towards the working face, by the horizontal component of the roof pressure. Coal-cutting mechanism is incorporated, comprising a cutting chain 16 in guides 15. A conveyer 13, 14 may be included, fed by a ramp 21.
