This invention relates to a razor blade cutting device or knife utilizing a thin flexible razor blade of the type usually used in safety razors.

Objects of the invention include the provision of a holder for the slidable reception of a safety razor blade, said blade being slidable from a position wherein the cutting edges thereof are safely housed in the holder to a cutting position in extension of the holder; the provision of a device as described comprising a housing open at one side thereof for free access to a razor blade slidably guided therein so that the same may be easily slid in and out of the housing from a housed safe condition to a position wherein the blade may be used for cutting and the like; and the provision of a device as above described wherein the razor blade is held within the hous- "ing by means of the cutting edges thereof but when pressed by the thumb of the user effectively shortens in width so as to provide for @quick and easy sliding action therein.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter.

As shown in the drawings the invention comprises a housing generally indicated at Hi, this housing being open at one side and being arcuate in shape as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. Along the opposite longitudinal edges of the concave side of the housing I0 there are provided a pair of guides l2 for receiving therebetween a razor blade [4. The sharp edges of the blade are disposed to engage the guideways l2 so that the blade is held to an appreciable degree against accidental sliding action regardless of where placed. That is, the blade is safely housed in the Fig. 1 position and is securely held in any cutting position as in Fig. 6; but on the other hand, when the blade is deflected by the finger or thumb of the user, substantially as shown in Fig. 5, the effective width of the blade is reduced and it may be easily slid to any desired position, the cutting edges of the blade being substantially out of con- .tact with the guides l2.

The opposite side of the housing may be provided with elements such as those at It providing finger grip portions so as to more securely hold the device in the hand, and it is to be understood that the elements l6 may assume any shape or proportions desired without departing from the scope of the invention.

It will be seen that this invention provides a simple, yet effective and inexpensively manufactured razor blade holder of the class described; although the holder maintains the blade in position by means of the cutting edges thereof, these cutting edges are not dulled to any appreciable degree by reason of the sliding action of the blade; and it is also to be noted that the blade will be held safely in housed position and the device may be carried in the pocket without danger of cutting the fingers.

Furthermore, the blade may be slid from housed to exposed condition at either end of the housing or casing giving four separate cutting edges, so that this device will last longer than razor blade cutting devices of the prior art.

Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, otherwise than is set forth in the claims, but what I claim is:

1. A device of the class described comprising a housing having an arcuate form and open at the concave side, a pair of parallel guideways on said housing, a razor blade mounted to be held by said guideways and deformable in a direction toward the housing for easy sliding movement thereof from a housed to an exposed condition.

2. A device of the class described comprising an arcuate housing open at the concave side, a pair of parallel guideways thereon at the concave side thereof, and a razor blade held in the housing by the cutting edges thereof engaging said guideways.
