[Class 39(iii)] In an electric radiator or other heating device a small heating element 8 capable of being heated to a high temperature is used to heat a larger area uniformly at a lower temperature by arranging it between and in close heat conducting relationship with components 1, 2 of greater area and high conductivity, these components being covered except for a border around the edges of one or more of the components, by sheets 12, 14 of heat insulating material. In one example (Fig. 2) the heating element 8 is located between a pair of aluminium or like plates of slightly curved form and one of the plates (1) has a backing 12 of insulating material. A number of smaller metal sheets 13, 15 are secured in parallel relation with the plate 2, and sheets 14, 16 of insulating material such as asbestos separate the metal sheets from each other. The rear plate 1 is formed or provided with a casing 11 which accommodates an asbestos sheet 9 backed by a plate 10 of metal such as iron. The assembly of plates is held together by pairs of bolts 24 and nuts 27. The plates 1, 2 are secured to base members 3, side members 4 and a front casing 5 also of sheet metal. Struts 6 connect the casing 5 with the upper part of the plate 2. In another example (Fig. 4) radiation takes place equally from both sides, the heating element 17 being clamped between two metal sheets 18 supported on a base 23. Insulating sheets 19, 21 and metal sheets 20, 22 are arranged alternately as shown, the components being clamped together by bolts as in the first example.
