618,128. Electric lamp fittings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 23, 1946, No. 31527. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1945. [Class 75 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A lamp holder for an endless tubular electric lamp, such as a circular fluorescent tube, having an electrical contact base in its periphery comprises an elongated supporting bracket 5 provided at its ends with two arms 6, 7 of insulating material having curved surfaces adapted to fit around part of the lamp, one arm 6 being provided with a connector 18 [see Group XXXVI] to engage the contact pins on the lamp and the other arm 7 being biased into engagement with the lamp. The arm 6 is clamped between the channel sections 9, 10 of the bracket 5 whilst the arm 7 which has a frictional button 24 to maintain the lamp in position is pivoted on a pin 25 in the channel section 10 and is urged by a U-spring 26 into engagement with the lamp. As shown in Fig. 10, the arm 7 is carried by a rod 47 capable of sliding and pivoting against the action of a coiled spring 51. Alternatively the bracket 5 may be a sheet metal channel section accommodating the electric conductors and forming a guideway for a supporting arm slidable against the action of a compression spring. A socket for the starting switch of the fluorescent lamp may be mounted in the bracket 5 adjacent to the lamp contact base. A plurality of lamps can be supported by providing a corresponding number of pairs of arms, 6, 7 on the bracket 5 or by mounting a plurality of brackets 5 one above the other on a vertical supporting stem. The connector 18 engaging the lamp contact pins is made of resilient rubber allowing limited movement of the contact sleeves 19 when removing the lamp. The supporting arms 6, 7 may engage the outer walls of the lamps.
