A U-shaped gaseous flash discharge lamp has sealed into the ends thereof electrodes 2, 3 of tungsten wire, which project outwardly from the envelope 1 to form leads the ends of which constitute contact elements or plug-in terminals which, without the provision of a mount or base, are adapted for plugging directly into spaced insulated sockets forming part of a holder 9 for supporting the lamp. The outer ends of the electrodes may be enlarged by providing them with brass cylindrical sleeves permanently connected thereto by brazing, &c. A trigger electrode in the form of a wire 6 is wound round and extends between the limbs of the envelope 1 and is connected at each crossing point to a conducting support 7. The trigger electrode may also consist of a metallic strip conductor, cemented to or fused into the envelope, or of a conductive coating on the whole of the outer surface of the envelope above the bridge 8. The support 7 is connected at one end to the bridge 8 which extends between and is clamped to the limbs of the envelope. The other end of the support 7 is clamped to the envelope at its bight. The holder 9 is provided with a spring contact member 10 adapted to engage the bridge 8 when the lamp is plugged therein. Specification 677,044 is referred to.
