Abstract

616,811. Water-gas plant. HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW, Ltd., and WILLIAMS, N. H. Jan. 17, 1946, No. 1673. [Class 55 (i)] In a water-gas process in which some or all of the air, steam or other gases passing upwardly through the generator 1 are pre-heated in a recuperative heat-exchanger 3 by the gaseous products of their respective passages through the generator, more constant temperature conditions are obtained at the entrance to the heat-exchanger by passing the gases from the generator through a regenerator 4 interposed between the generator and the heat-exchanger. Down-run steam may be pre-heated by passage through the upper-half 5 of the regenerator 4 and in a modification may also have passed through a heat-exchanger through which the gaseous products of the down-run are passing.
