Abstract

613,342. Sliding-clasp fasteners. NEWEY BROS., Ltd., and MANLEY, C. June 21, 1946, No. 18679. [Class 44] An open end fitting for a sliding - clasp fastener comprises a die-cast socket member a mounted on the beaded edge of one stringer tape, and having a longitudinal slot or socket c to receive a tapered pin h mounted on the beaded edge of the other tape, a part only of which enters the socket and the other part of which is formed with a projection k of such width that in conjunction with the pin and the projecting part of a fastener element on the other tape it forms an assembly of width greater than the throat or entrance of the slider. Thus; the slider cannot be moved unless the fitting is correctly engaged. When the pin h is fully entered, the first fastener element on the other stringer is in alignment with a cut-away portion of the pin above the projection. As shown, the member a has a slot b with an internal projection e to receive a ferrule f having a slot g, the ferrule being clamped on to the tape and then inserted in the slot b and permanently secured by a pressing or like operation.
