[Class 44] In a sliding-clasp fastener which allows separation of the stringers when the slider is at the top end with the fastening closed, a top stop 6 is provided having a projection 7 which enters a groove 8 in the slider and is resiliently arrested therein to prevent further movement of the slider when normal force is applied thereto, the projection passing completely through and out of the groove when additional force is applied. As shown the groove 8 is formed in one wing 5 of the slider and a spring member 11 secured in an exterior recess in the wing by a riveted projection 13 has one end curled inwards to form a rounded projection extending inwards at 15 into the groove 8 to obstruct passage of projection 7. The spring yields when additional force is applied so that the slider can be moved past the stop. The tape bead 3 terminates above the stop and has a tag 16 or other means to prevent fraying. When the slider is moved beyond the tag 16 on to the unbeaded part of the tape, the tape can be removed laterally through the slot in the slider and the fastening released by lateral pull on the tapes. The slider is retained on the bead 3 of the other tape, which has a stop of usual form to prevent endlong removal of the slider therefrom or, as shown, is folded over at the end 17 and secured by stitching. Stops such as 6, 7 may be provided on both stringers and the slider provided with a corresponding pair of grooves, or the stop may have oppositely directed projections with corresponding grooves in both wings of the slider. In an alternative form the spring is omitted and the groove is of decreasing depth so that the projection 7 becomes wedged therein, resilience of the material of the slider being relied on to allow movement of the slider to be continued by application of sufficient force. The stringers have separable fittings, not shown, of the usual pin and socket type, at the lower ends.
