607,976. Stays for hinged &c. articles. HOLDT, W. A. Dec. 28, 1945, No. 35119. [Class 65 (i)] A stay of the pin-and-hole lift-off type is characterised in that a shaped portion of the stay bar 4 is adapted, when the casement 1 is fully closed, to be engaged in a slot of dovetail or other narrow-mouthed shape in cross-section in a bracket 11 fixed to the frame, the shaped portion thereafter being slidable non-removably in the slot to a limited extent. As shown, the bracket is combined with the pin 14 and is formed with a dovetail slot, while the bar is formed with a corresponding dovetail rib 7, a stop-member 8, and adjacent the latter with notches adapted to interlock with the bracket, the bar being reinforced at 18 in the region of the notches. The casement is locked in the closed position by the engagement of a hole 23 in the bar with a pin 21 on a bracket 22 fixed to the sill. In a modification, the slotted bracket is fixed to a vertical member of the frame. In a further modification, the bar is formed adjacent its attached end with a reduced or neck portion adapted to pass through the narrow portion of the slot, whereafter the remaining portion of the bar is capable of sliding movement in the larger portion of the slot.
