Abstract
596,170. Gear pumps. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd., and SMITH, S. July 23, 1945, No. 18848. [Class 110 (ii)] A reversible gear pump comprises an inlet g<2> and an outlet port g<1> at opposite ends of a casing a and in alignment with the axes of the gear-wheels, transverse bores h<1>, h<2> adjacent the ports, longitudinal bores i<1>, i<2> connecting the ends of the transverse bores, inlet valves l<1>, l<2> and outlet valves l<3>, l<4> at the intersections of the transverse and longitudinal bores and a transverse bore o connecting the longitudinal bores in line with the meshing point of the gears. The open ends of the bores are bushed with plugs h<11>, h<22>, k<1>, k<2>, p<1> and p<2>. Either one of the plugs p<1>, p<2> depending on the direction of rotation may be removed to enable the corresponding end of the bore o to be used as a supplementary outlet.
