[Class 131] [Also in Group XXII] A dry .shaver includes a guard formed by closely spaced arcuate members b ground on their inner faces at b' to provide slots of the necessary width for the entry of hair to be cut. The members b are made by winding a wire b round a circular former and welding it to the strips e arranged peripherally in pairs. The strips e are separated in pairs and the wire between the strips ground, bent as at b' and secured to the base a. A spring clip f is inserted to add rigidity and protective pieces hold the assembly in place. The reciprocating cutter c is arranged inside the guard so that its blades d are substantially tangential to the inner surfaces of the guard at their point of contact and is made by imbedding a helical coil of steel d with chamfered edges in a base c or by securing flat strips of steel d to a rectangular base c which is subsequently cut in two at c' as shown in Fig. 8. The guard and cutter may be made by impressing or machine-cutting a series of semicircular ridges on a plate and grinding the middle portion on the faces which will later be brought together until the spaces between adjacent ridges are of the required width.
