Abstract

577,369. Nesting chairs. SHEPHERD & CO., Ltd., H. C., and MANTOR, S. R. May 22, 1944, No. 9827. [Class 52 (ii)] In a chair stackable upon its like by being lowered upon it with its rear legs straddling the rear part of the seat or seat frame, the seat narrows towards the back to a width equal to or less than the distance between the rear legs at the level of the seat and the rear legs diverge downwardly from the level of the seat at an angle equal to or slightly greater than that between the inclined sides of the seat. The chair comprises a seat 11 and back rest of cloth or leather secured in stretchers attached to the seat and back frames which are preferably formed from two lengths AB of tubular metal of which A is bent to form the rear legs 2 and the backwardly inclined back rest frame 1 with cross member 12 bowed backwards at 13 and B is bent to form the front legs 4 with cross member 5 and rearwardly converging seat frame 3 and is welded at 9 to the cross member 8.
