Abstract

575,658. Mounting chucks, milling- cutters &c. JAMESON, J. L. March 29, 1944, No. 5825. [Class 83 (iii)] Work and tool holders such as chucks and milling-cutters are mounted by flanges locked to a spindle flange by means of a divided ring of channel section. To permit of rapid assembly, at least one pair of inter-engaging flanges are gapped to form a series of teeth 5. The ring 1 is in two parts connected by bolts and the flanges are tapered to draw the backplate 8 of the chuck into contact with the spindle flange 7 on tightening the bolts. Drive may be transmitted by the flanges or through a key 12 secured in a keyway 11 in the spindle flange and engaging a keyway 11a in the back plate. To prevent rattle when the chuck &c. is removed, a spring plunger 13 in the spindle flange engages a notch 15 in the ring 1. The bolts may be'replaced by a quick-acting cam.
