561,330. Toothed gearing. NORTHERN PATENT DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd., and BARTLETT, B. G. W. Nov. 17, 1942, No. 16255. [Class 80 (i)] In toothed gearing of the kind in which a drive is transmitted through an annular toothed gear, two or more intermeshing annular toothed gear members disposed one within the other are associated with the driven and driving member or with either of them. As applied to a motor-cycle drive, the engine 2 drives a pinion 1 engaged by internal teeth 4 of an annular floating gear member 3 having external teeth 5 engaged by a chain 6. This chain engages teeth 14 of an annular floating gear 13 the internal teeth 12 of which mesh with external teeth 11 of an annular gear 9 the internal teeth 10 of which drive a pinion 7 which may drive the rear cycle wheel 8 directly or through a gear change mechanism. The various gears are shrouded to their pitch circles at 15 ... 19. Two or more annular gears may be associated with the pinion 1, or the chain 6 may engage this pinion directly. A belt may replace the chain.
