555,765. Girders and beams. SMITH, C. A. V., and ABELES, P. W. March 9, 1942, No. 3104. [Class 20 (iv)] Sections 1a, 1b of a reinforced concrete beam or like structure are joined by metallic connecting means in the tensile zone of the structure and the ends 5 of the sections are inclined and abut to transmit shear and compression forces. The connection may be made by bolts passing through projections or ears on the sections or by a coupling 14 at the ends of the reinforcement bars 2.
