Abstract

547,675. Control of D.C. motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CROFT, E. H. March 3, 1941, No. 2856. [Class 38 (iii)] Traction motor 2 is rheostatically and mechanically braked by depression of pedal associated with controller 11. To avoid continued energization of the shunt field 4 when the vehicle is held stationary by the mechanical brake, the contactor 7 is opened by de-energizing its coil 7c at very low speeds. The coil 7c is energized over contacts 12 of relay 12c which is associated with an auxiliary generator 13. At low speeds (about 1 m.p.h.) the relay 12 opens. Other means of determining low speed may be used, such as a vane or air cylinder device associated with the self-ventilation of the motor.
