538,877. Cycle driving-mechanism. THORESEN, C. H. G. W. Feb. 15, 1940, No. 2915. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1939. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 16, 1940.] [Class 136 (ii)] In hand driving-mechanism for the front wheel of a cycle, of the kind wherein the handlebar, swingable scale-beam fashion, is used to drive the wheel through free-wheel mechanism, a toothed segment 57 carried by the handle-bar 51 engages a toothed wheel 56 connected to the driving-wheel 54 of an endless flexible driving- member 59 which passes around wheels 60, 61 on the two sides of the road wheel 58 and around an idler wheel 62, the wheels 60, 61 driving the road wheel through free-wheel mechanisms. The wheels 54, 62 may be coaxial and parallel, the axial distance between them being approximately equal to the effective diameters of the wheels 60, 61. Or the idler wheel 62 may be arranged at an angle to the plane of the wheel 54 and the axial distance between the wheels be made smaller than the diameters of the wheels 60, 61. The member 59 may be chains, wires or bands, or it may be partly a chain or chains and partly wires or bands.
