[Class 44] A swinging latch for a car door &c. comprises a member 2 pivoted at 16 and adapted to be moved to release position by a spring 17 when a spring locking member 31 is moved out of contact with member 2 by push or pull members 42, 41 on opposite sides of the door. When the latch is released, its nose 23 pushes against the face 49 of the striker plate 3 to open the door slightly. The striker plate may carry a rubber buffer 58 for the latch.
