Abstract

537,092. Vehicle couplings. WEAKLEY, F. J. Feb. 19, 1940, No. 3132. [Class 103 (v)] A coupling unit for a two-wheeled trailer vehicle comprises two links pivoted at opposite ends to the towing or trailer vehicles respectively so as to be angularly movable transversely against the action of a spring or springs during reverse movement of the towing vehicle, the trailer being controlled by the action of the links and a spring or springs. In the construction shown in Figs 2 and 3 the links 7 maintain the front of the trailer parallel to the rear of the towing vehicle and a compression spring 14 in sliding tubes 12, 13 is pivotally connected between each link 7 and the towing vehicle 3 so that upon inclination as shown in Fig. 2 during reverse movement one of the springs is compressed to control the trailer 1. Channel bars 4, 5 connect the links of springs to the vehicles. Instead of the links 7 being parallel they may be inclined to each other rearwardly to form a trapezium.
