Abstract

525,888. Fuel-injection pumps. DAVIDSON, A. J. March 2, 1939, No. 6857. [Class 102 (i)] A fuel injection pump comprises a member 25 which reciprocates over a fixed piston 46 and is exposed to the pressure in the engine cylinder. To commence delivery, a wedge 57, moved by an engine driven cam 61, is forced between a roller 52, fixed to the casing, and a roller 54, fixed to the member 25, so that with the assistance of the compression pressure of the engine, the member 25 is moved against the spring 49. The fuel inlet 39 and the byepass 40 are cut off so that fuel is delivered through the valve 31 and injector orifice 36. As the wedge 57 is withdrawn, the spring 49 moves the member 25 to cause the suction stroke. The member 41 is moved by the pinion 44 to vary the position of the member 25 at which the byepass is cut off. The delivery valve 31 has ports 33 arranged so that they are closed by the guide 30 before the valve 31 is seated, to prevent dribble.
