Abstract

545,847. Fuel-injection pumps. AKTIEBOLAGET BOLINDER-MUNKTELL. Jan. 9, 1941, No. 331. Convention date, Dec. 21,. 1939. [Class 102 (i)] In a fuel-injection pump for internal-combustion engines in which the effective length of the pump stroke is varied by means of a rotatable channelled sleeve co-operating with a recessed part of the plunger, the recess having an inclined edge to vary its axial extension, the outer face of the sleeve is free from channels or passages, so as to relieve it from the pressure of the fuel. The plunger 6 reciprocates in a barrel formed by a lower fixed part 9a and an upper rotatable sleeve composed of inner and outer parts 9, 9b, which are secured together. The sleeve is rotated by rack - mechanism from a governor. Fuel under pressure enters the fixed casing 38 through a passage 3 and circulates freely through the pumps. It passes through a passage 4 in the fixed part 9a of the barrel, and a bore in the plunger to recesses 8, 11 formed in the inner face of the rotatable sleeve and between the two parts of the sleeve respectively. From the recess 11, it passes through a bore 15 in the plunger to outlet passages 16, 17 in the barrel and in the casing respectively. The plunger has a reduced part forming a recess 23, into which fuel can pass from a part 26 in the inner part of the sleeve, and thence through a bore in the plunger to the space 25 below it. When the plunger descends, the upper inclined edge 27 of the recess 23 closes the part 26, and the effective stroke begins. When a second part 29 in the sleeve is uncovered by the lower edge 28 of the recess, the effective stroke ends, the fuel escaping through the plunger to the outlet passages 16, 17.
