[Class 135] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a water-actuated control valve or electric switch wherein a plunger connected to the valve or switch is moved axially by water flow, the plunger has a hollow portion encircling the water inlet with clearance and disposed with clearance in the casing, whereby the direction of water flow is reversed between the hollow portion of the plunger and the water inlet. Water flowing from inlet 11 to outlet 12 has the direction of flow reversed between parts 16 and 17, and acts to lift the plunger 18 against gravity or a spring bias to actuate the valve 39 through crank arms 31, 37 on spindle 26. Leakage through the spindle bearing is prevented by an adjustable spring 28 maintaining the thrust joint 27, and also by packing 34. The part 17 may be slidingly supported on part 16, the water in this case flowing through grooves in the external surface of the latter.
