[Class 135] In a float-controlled valve of the type in which an axially movable plunger 7 coacts with an annular valve seat 5 on the end of an inlet tube and has a tubular skirt 8 surrounding the inlet tube to form an annular passage 9 thus reversing the direction of flow, a second annular passage 10 in series with and of greater cross-sectional area than the passage 9 surrounds the skirt 8, so that the velocity energy of the liquid is dissipated in two stages. The tubular skirt may be provided with an internal recess, The arrangement is stated to reduce noise.
