Abstract

532,427. Speed governing mechanisms. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (Allgemeine Elektricitats-Ges.). Aug. 30, 1939, No. 24891. [Class 135] A centrifugal governor mechanism for steam turbines arranged for alternative static or isodromic operation is provided with stops for preventing, in the case of static operation, an excessive deviation of the governor sleeve from its middle position and with means for permitting any desired load adjustment without varying the sleeve position. The turbine valve 3 is operated by a power piston 2 controlled by a piston valve 2a actuated by a floating lever 10. The lever 10 is coupled on the one hand to the piston 2 and on the other through an amplifying device 8 with a lever 9 operatively connected with the sleeve of a centrifugal governor 1. For static working the other end of the lever 9 is connected through a lever 14 and friction coupling 12 ; with a worm wheel 18 adapted to be rotated by a motor 17. For isodromic working the lever 14 is coupled through a coupling 13, lever 15, spring loading device 5 and lever 11 with the floating lever 10. The lever 15 is also connected to the piston 4 of a stationary dashpot. In place of this arrangement the isodromic fittings may be built into the return rod system of the power device. The lever 9 also carries a bridging contact 26 adapted in its extreme position to bridge contact 24 or 25 which contacts also serve as stops. The governor loading is adjusted by a motor 22 and the couplings 12, 13 are operated by a motor 20 controlled by a switch 29. The motors 17, 22 are controlled by a switch 27, the particular motor in operation being controlled by a switch 28 operated by the motor 20 except in the extreme positions of the lever and when the switch 24, 25, 26 puts both motors in parallel.
