[Class 79 (i)] Rubber tread shoes are secured to plates affording a large area of contact, and bent substantially at rightangles from the track links, by a process involving the coating of the plate . with copper or brass and applying the rubber to the coated surface under heat and pressure. In Fig. 2, sideby-side elements 2<1>b of a track link are bent outwardly at 2<1>a, and the rubber treads 1 secured to the parts 2<1>a. In Fig. 3, two sideby-side chain sections are formed by the side arms 2<11>b of U-members, to the lower flat parts 2<11>a of which rubber treads 1 of circular cross-section are secured. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also an arrangement in which the plate to which the rubber tread is secured is separate from the track links and is bent to embrace the top and sides of the links, and a modification of such an arrangement in which the rubber tread is secured to an intermediate plate bolted to the plate embracing the links. A transverse passage in the tread admits lubricant to the links. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
