Abstract

504,716. Sliding clasp fastenings. CORNER, G. H. C., and LIGHTNING FASTENERS, Ltd. Oct. 22, 1937, Nos. 28926/37 and 30245/38. [Class 44] In a completely separable sliding-clasp fat-tener with fastener elements of non- metallic material the completely separable end fittings are of non-metallic material and are mounted on the tapes by cementing or glueing or by temporarily softening portions thereof such as a tape-receiving. groove by solvent so as to make them adhere to the tape. The socket member 4 has an upward extension 5 with a reduced top 2a conveniently provided by a cut-off fastener element while the pin member 6 has an enlarged top 6a conveniently provided by an additional fastener element placed to abut the lowest effective fastener element; the enlargement 6a must be in line with the reduced part 2a before the slider can be moved upwardly to operate the fastener. To stiffen the tapes adjacent the separable end fittings strips of cellulosic material are cemented to covering tape portions 8 which are then applied to the mounting tape and wetted with solvent, 'the whole being pressed together to form a unitary mass. The stiffening is restricted to a narrow part 7. Specifications 391,146; 393,453, [Group XXII], 395,708, 400,958, and 426,644 are referred to.
