Abstract

504,170. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. June 29, 1938, No. 19229. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1937. [Class 135] A control system for an internal combustion engine includes means whereby the maximum quantity of fuel which can be delivered is determined jointly by a regulating device operating in dependence on or responsive to the supercharging pressure and a regulating device operating in dependence on or responsive to the speed of the engine such device comprising a flexible member subject to the delivery pressure of a pump driven by the engine. In the form shown in the Figure, the maximum movement of the control rod 28 for the. fuel injection pumps E under the control of a speed governor F is limited by an adjustable stop 27. This stop is formed on a bell-crank.lever 17 which works between fixed stops 30, 31 and is pivoted on a lever 20 linked to a bellows 22 subject to the outlet pressure of a cooling water pump H or other pump whose speed varies with the speed of the engine. The stop is also linked to a power piston 12 actuated by fluid pressure under the control of a piston valve itself actuated by supercharger outlet pressure acting on a bellows 9 coupled to the control valve 11 and power piston 12 by a floating lever 10. Increase of supercharging pressure increases the maximum quantity of fuel while increase of speed decreases the maximum quantity of fuel. In a modification the control valve 11 is fitted with a movable seat operated by the bellows subject to the pressure from the governor pump. In this form the lever 17 turns on a fixed pivot. Specification 482,864, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
