Abstract

1370040 Regulating I C engine fuel injection AMBAC INDUSTRIES Inc 25 Oct 1972 49190/72 Heading F1B A device, positioning the maximum fuel stop 34 for a centrifugal governor 10 controlling the fuel control rod 26 of a turbo-charged diesel engine injection pump 14, comprises a cylinder 48 containing a piston 60 subject on one end surface 88 through a passage 78 to engine pressurized fluid, e.g. lubricating oil, and biased by a spring 64 against the fluid pressure. A piston 98 is slidable in a bore 70 in the piston 60 and is subject to intake manifold pressure through passage 126 in the cylinder 48. A spring 118 biases the piston 98 against the manifold pressure and the piston rod 102 is connected to the stop 34. In operation, the piston 60 is biased by the spring 64 against a sealing ring 82 to a position permitting increased fuel for starting until the pressurized fluid acting through the passage 78 reaches a predetermined pressure at which the piston is moved against the bias of the spring 64 to abut the other end of the cylinder, the pressure then acting on the complete end surface 88. During engine operation other than acceleration and low speed full load operation the intake manifold pressure is above the predetermined value necessary to move the piston 98 against the bias of the spring 118 and the stop 34 is positioned to provide a normal running maximum supply. Below the predetermined manifold pressure the piston 98 moves against the spring bias and the maximum fuel supply is limited.
