Abstract

640,086. Centrifugal governors. SCHNEIDER & CIE. Dec. 28, 1945, No. 35091. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1944. [Class 57] [Also in Group XXIX] A device for controlling the fuel injection pumps of an internal combustion engine comprises a fluid pressure servomotor having a differential piston 20 subject to the action of a centrifugal governor and one or more annular pistons such as 21 sliding on the differential piston, fluid connections such as f, g, h being provided to admit fluid under adjustable pressure to each side of each piston whereby to obtain at least one intermediate position of adjustment which may be rendered at least partially independent of the action of the governor. In the Figure, the differential piston 20 bears only one annular piston 21 so that by selectively controlling the connections f, g, h one determined intermediate position of the control rod 15 is connected through a linkage 16 to the output control of the fuel injection pumps and is subject to the action of the governor loading spring 14 and the centrifugal force of the governor weights 9 acting on the collar 13. The lower abutment of the annular piston 21 comprises a sleeve 22 adjustable by a screw 23 after removal of a sealing cap 26. Stops 27 passing through the base of the sleeve 22 limit the stroke of the piston 20. The connections f, g, h are controlled by a distributing valve 31 operable by a handle 32 and supplied by a motor driven pump 29 from a tank 28. In the " full running" position the connection g only is connected to the pressure supply the valve of this pressure being adjustable by a valve 34. In the " throttled running " position, both the connections f, g are subject to pressure and the connection h is open to exhaust. In the " stop position, the connection f only is open to pressure. In the two latter positions, the valve 34 is cut out and the supply pressure is adjustable by a valve 30. A gauge 35 indicates the supply pressure. Other engines may be controlled simultaneously from the same station 45 through conduits 36, 37, 38. The engine or engines may be controlled from another station through conduits 42, 43, 44, cocks 39, 40, 41 being operated to cut out the station 45.
