Abstract

504,123. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and GIBSON, W. T. Oct. 19, 1937, No. 28462. [Class 39 (i)] In an electron-discharge device such as a thermionic valve, electrodes are supported from a metal base-plate or cup 4, which is soldered to a metal ring 3 after the latter has been sealed to the vitreous extension 2 of the water-cooled anode 1. A filamentary cathode is supported from an insulating support 6 and the grid 5 from rods. Leads 8 are sealed to ferrules 10 which are sealed to glass tubes 9 haying metal tube extensions 13 hard soldered to the base 4; an exhausting tube 12 is also carried from the base by a metal tube. The base may be cooled during building-up and normally especially if soft solder is used at the joint 11 between the base and ring 3.
