Abstract
558,336. Thermionic-valve caps ; vacuum tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd (General Electric Co.). July 10, 1942, No. 9631. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XL] A pin contact 22 for a thermionic valve or other device with a closed envelope 13 in which the electrode &c. within the envelope are mounted on the lead-in conductors which are supported by the pin contacts, these having a contact portion 22a of smaller diameter in which the lead-in conductors 32 are secured and a portion 22b of larger diameter forming a thimble with a tapered edge for sealing into the glass envelope all as described in Specification 418,648, [Group XI], has the pins reinforced at the point where the larger and smaller portions meet. The annular portion 26 having a tendency to bend especially when heated, is supported by a collar 42 shaped to fit into the angle beneath it and secured by silver-soldering &c. The valve comprises an externally cooled anode 10 forming part of the envelope. A grid 36 wound on rods 34 is mounted on a plate 28 attached to the lead-in conductors 32. Cathode filaments 37 are carried by discs 38 supported on a lead-in 40 that is fitted with a disc 43 that with the plate 28 shields the tube base from heat &c.
