Abstract
377,041. Disc:harge apparatus. NAAMI,OOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Oct. 24, 1931, No. 29558. Convention date, Oct. 31, 1930. [Class 39 (i).] A gas-filled tube such as a rectifier or a neon lamp has an incandescent cathode 2 surrounded by a metallic sleeve 15 and is provided with an ion catcher 6 which is located on the side of the cathode remote from the anode and extends beyond the open ends of the sleeve. The ion catcher may be connected to the sleeve and through a resistance or directly to the cathode by means of a bush 16 which is fitted on a cathode leadin wire and is flanged at its upper side. The sleeve and catcher are also connected at 18. The catcher may be cup-shaped or consist of a plate formed with an upstanding edge. Quartz tubes 11 and a steatite tube 14 protect the lead-in wires. The lower portion of the tube is kept comparatively cool by means of a mica heat shield 19, and the temperature of this portion determines the pressure of the filling more particularly when the tube contains a vaporizable solid or liquid such as mercury generating a vapour filling. A number of anodes may be used. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the sleeve 15 may be dispensed with [Fig. 1, not shown (Cancelled)], and the anode arm may be connected to the main portion of the bulb through a metallic sleeve which may be given a potential facilitating starting ; a number of cathodes may be used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
