Abstract

503,394. Winches. STORK & CO.'S APPARATENFABRIEK N.V., GEB. Sept. 24, 1938, No. 27910. Convention date, Nov. 30, 937. [Class 78 (v)] A hoisting-apparatus combined with tipping means has two drums 9, 10 on which is wound a cable 34 the ends of which are attached each to one of the drums. The bight of the cable passes round a pulley 35 geared by chains 42 to a shaft 45 carrying two grooved sheaves 50. Endless chains 52 riding over these sheaves encircle also sheaves 54 on the ends of a container 55, so that rotation of the drums 9, 10 in opposite directions will result in a travel of the cable 34 from one to the other, with consequent turning of the pulley 35 and sheaves 50, resulting in tilting of the container 55. The drums 9, 10 are driven by two motors which operate respectively worms 24 and 32. The worm 24 meshes with a wheel 23 which carries differential pinions gearing with sun wheels 21, 22 fixed respectively to toothed wheels 18, 19 meshing with pinions 16, 17 attached coaxially respectively to wheels 13, 14 gearing with pinions 11, 12 on the drums 9, 10. Positive rotation of the worm 24 thus produces equal progression in the same direction of the drums 9 and 10, with equal winding-on or winding-off of the cable 34 and simple raising or lowering of the load. The worm 32 meshes with a wheel 31 carrying differential pinions engaging sun-wheels fixed respectively to pinions 26, 28. The pinion 26 gears directly with pinion 16, but the pinion 28 gears with the pinion 31 through an intermediate wheel 27. Positive rotation of the worm 32 thus effects rotation of the drums 9, 10 in opposite directions, with consequent tipping of the container 55. The differentials permit one of the'worms 24, 32 to be stationary while the other drives, but both may be driven together. giving lifting or lowering simultaneously with tipping. Idle sheaves 36, 37 guide the cable 34, and a motor 7 traverses the hoist along a runway 6. The worm 32 is self-braking, but the worm 24 is preferably not, but is fitted with an electromagnetic brake automatically applied and released when its motor stops and starts.
