Abstract

496,287. Hand operated lifts. EXPRESS LIFT CO., Ltd., and DIXIE, W. A. Feb. 25, 1937, No. 5697. [Class 78 (iii)] Operating gear for a manually operated lift or hoist, constructed of standard parts, but adaptable to different loads and cage sizes, comprises a main frame 1 supporting a hand-rope wheel shaft 15 and a winding sheave shaft 4 interconnected by reduction gearing 6, 11, 10 and 16. Shaft 15, carrying the handrope wheel 12 and gear 16, is mounted in a sub-frame 13 adjustable laterally on the main frame 1. Gears 10 and 11 are carried on a shaft 9 mounted in a second sub-frame 7 rotatable about shaft 4, gear 11 being permanently in mesh with the gear 6 on shaft 4. In assembling, shaft 15 is first cut to a length appropriate to the depth of the car. A rope wheel 12 and a winding sheave of diameters appropriate to the width of the car are then secured on shafts 15 and 4, the rope wheel and winding sheave then being brought into correct relationship by adjustment of sub-frame 13 on the main frame. Gears 16 and 10 appropriate to the load are then secured on shafts 15 and 9, and brought into mesh by rotation of sub-frame 7 which is then bolted in its adjusted position. A brake drum operable by a hanging rope may be mounted on a shaft 18 gearing with shaft 15.
