[Class 34 (ii)] In apparatus for drying grass or the like, comprising a single endless perforated conveyer or, as shown, a plurality of such conveyers, mounted in a container 1, the upper and lower rims of each conveyer forming with the sides of the container a chamber into which is led hot air, the single conveyer, or the lowest conveyer projects through the container 1 and means are provided associated with the upper and lower rims of the conveyer so that as the grass is being discharged cold air is prevented from entering the container otherwise than through the grass. The means shown are flaps 37, 38, 39. A flue 17 in a furnace 2 is connected with a chamber 16 which communicates by boxes 18, 19 with the chamber 15 formed by the conveyer 11. A chamber 22 at the top of the furnace communicates with box 23, which in turn communicates with chambers 13, 14 formed respectively by conveyers 9, 10. The distribution of heated air in the chambers 13, 14, 15 is assisted by fixed and movable cowls. The top of the container 1 has a hood 29 provided with an exhaust fan. The grass is fed to the conveyer 9 from a hopper 33, the width of which is adjustable. Taut wires, such as 50, may he disposed above some or all of the conveyers to loosen the grass, the wires being caused to vibrate by cam means. The grass may be further loosened by rotary devices 53. Dampers are provided to regulate the temperature of the heated air supplied from the furnace to the container 1.
