Abstract

225,351. Sangwin, W. Nov. 1, 1923. Gravity, material descending by; air and gases, controlling circulation of.-Apparatus for drying stone, slag, &c. comprises a rectangular casing having transverse baffles b, d, e, f, the baffles forming hoods through which hot air or gas is passed and circulated by pipes u, v, w and a fan 3, while cold air can be admitted through controlled openings y. The stone, &c. is fed into the casing through the opening q and passes downwards between the baffles to the discharge hopper j, while vapour formed in the casing is directed bv the baffles d into the spaces c, being finally discharged from the casing through the pipes r. The baffles d may be adjustable. In a modification, the hoods are formed of louvered plates and all except the uppermost one are open at the top. In this case, hot air or gas is admitted only to the lowermost hood, and the dried material is discharged on to a reciprocating plate. The hot gas may be supplied from a furnace disposed at the bottom of the casing.
