Abstract

663,121. Drying apparatus. STOTT, O. July 14, 1950 [July 19, 1949], No. 19605/49. Class 34(ii) Apparatus for drying grass &c. comprising a casing 1 has a plurality of passages defined by spaced horizontal tubular elements 3 and through which hot air or gases are discharged upwardly by fans 2, the material to be dried being projected into the apparatus above the elements 3 so that it falls towards them and is then projected upwardly by the rising current of air or gases. The upper part of the casing has hinged baffle plates 10 which may be simultaneously turned to vary the angle between the plates as may the tubular elements 3 which are similarly pivotally mounted. Material to be dried is fed into a hopper 18 having a cutter 19 whence it is delivered into the casing 1 by a gas stream, the dried product being discharged through a shoot 20 and its direction of travel in the casing 1 being varied by adjustment of the baffle 10 and tubular elements 3. The air or gases are returned to the respective fans for re-use via chambers 14 or discharged to the atmosphere through outlet 17.
