Abstract
499,152. Moulding presses. AUTO UNION AKT.-GES. Aug. 18, 1937, No. 22649. Convention date, Aug. 18, 1936. [Class 87 (ii)] A moulding - press particularly for laminated synthetic resin comprises a fixed die 5, a power - actuated movable plunger 3, and one or more intermediate movable press members 9, each having locking means 13 for securing it to either adjacent press member. The locking means comprises astirrup mounted on an eccentric 14 on a shaft 16 and adapted to engage journals 15, 19 on the die 5 and plunger 3. The eccentric is rotated to tension the stirrup by a lever 17 which is locked by a catch 18. A plunger head 4 and die cavity 6 are provided respectively on the plunger 3 and die 5. The intermediate members 9 are each formed with or carry a die 12 and plunger 11. The plunger 3 may be operated hydraulically and the members 9 mounted to slide on rods 7, 8. In use, the member 9 is secured by the stirrup 13 to the plunger 3 and the cavity 6 is charged and pressure exerted by the plunger 11. A spacing ring 22 may be provided between the empty die 12 and the plunger 3. The member 9 is then secured to the die 5 by turning the stirrup 13, the plunger 3 is raised, the die 12 is charged, and the plunger 3 is lowered to press the second charge. The first charge is cooled, as by compressed air introduced at pipes 21.
