496,960. Automatic control systems. STEVENS, S. A., and WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd. June 8, 1937, No. 15902. [Class 38 (iv)] Arcs.-In an electrode feed device for direct-current arc lamps, the winding of a relay for controlling the feed-mechanism is connected in a circuit which includes the arc and an auxiliary source of direct current voltage which is unaffected by variations of the internal impedance of the arc. The Figure shows an arc 1 supplied from an alternating-current source through a rectifier and control device 2. The winding of the relay 5 controlling the feed-mechanism is connected to a variable point 6 of a resistance 4 connected across the terminals 3 of a constant-voltage supply. This last may be derived from the same source as the arc supply through a separate transformer and rectifier.
