496,373. Gear pumps and engines. VROLIX, A. S. T., and SOC. ANON. L'OUTILLAGE R. B. V. May 21, 1938, No. 15239. Convention date, May 22, 1937. [Class 110 (ii)] Means for balancing suction and delivery pressures (in the case of a pump) compiise chambers 9, 14, of unequal lengths around each gear which communicate respectively with the delivery 5 and suction 4. The angle # of the chamber 9 is equal to. the opposite angle alpha which includes the meshing arc of the gears. The chambers and passages 8, 13, may be arranged in the pump side cheeks. In a modification, Fig. 3, a reversible pump or engine has balancing chambers 9, 14, of equal length, and a separate chamber 20 to balance the pressure in the meshing arc. The chambers 9, 14, communicate with the pressure side of the pump, this pressure opening one or other of the valves 11, 16. These chambers and passages may be located in the side cheeks. Further passages may be provided to lead off liquid to the gearshaft bearings, for lubricating purposes. For balancing end thrusts on the shafts, holes in the shafts allow communication between chambers at each end of the gear bushes.
