Abstract

340,111. Drysdale & Co., Ltd., and Drysdale, J. W. W. Dec. 2, 1929. Movable-abutment type; mounting and supporting; inspection of internal parts, facilitating; bearings, arrangement of; compensating for irregularity of flow.-The casing of a vertical gear-wheel pump with only one external shaft e which is directly driven by a motor m is formed in two parts, being divided in a vertical plane passing through the axis of the driving shaft. The back part a includes the support for the motor and is formed with the suction and discharge ports s, t, whilst the front part b is of a half drum shape to extend over the idler gear d. The shafts of the gear wheels c, d are carried in " binocular " frames n, n which are located by fitting into grooves o formed on the' casing halves. Different capacity pumps can be obtained by fitting gears of different axial length, the frames n, n, being also varied in thickness but with the portion received in the casing grooves o unaltered. Fig. 2 shows a readily removable relief valve, v which can be interchanged to the other side of the casing by removing the caps w. The idlergear shaft is supported by a thrust bearing r.
