Abstract

491,408. Fluid - actuated. valves. SELAS GAS & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., BAKER, R., and LEESON, V. C. Oct. 15, 1937, No. 28080. [Class 135] A valve for controlling the mixing of two or more gases in definite predetermined proportions comprises a sleeve valve C with ports C<1>, C<2> moved axially in a cylinder D having ports M N for the different gases by a diaphragm W exposed on its underside to atmospheric pressure and on its upper side to the pressure of the mixed gases which pass axially out of the valve, the sleeve valve being rotatably adjustable at will by means including a pointer H movable over a fixed scale V to vary the relative proportions of the gases. The sleeve valve C is connected by a spindle L to the diaphragm W which is exposed to the pressure of the mixed gases by ports R<1>, R<2>, to atmospheric pressure through a hand-hole P. Gas and air enter the cylinder D from chambers B, K respectively. The sleeve valve is slidable on guide rods I carried by a spindle I which passes through a gland E in a cover plate F. The mixed gases leave the cylinder D through an outlet J. The spindle carries the pointer H which is adjusted by a micrometer screw U. The pointer may be locked in adjusted position. Only one gas port N is provided and the exposed area of this is constant over the range of adjustment, so that if the temperature and pressure of the gases are maintained constant, the scale V gives a true indication of the air to gas ratio. Otherwise a correction must be applied. Specification 3533/07, [Class 135], is referred to.
