Abstract

485,141. Valve closures. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 22, 1937, No. 25736. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1936. [Class 135] A valve for fluids under pressure comprises a valve seat c formed in an undulating resilient metal diaphragm d and a valve member a having a co-operating surface of spherical or globular form. The contact faces are similarly curved. The fluid pressure on the ball a may be aided or opposed by a spring p which abuts the ball directly as shown in Fig. 1 or through an apertured plate. The spring also abuts a box or cage n appreciably larger in diameter than the ball. In a modification, the greater part of the ball is embraced by a holder capable of rocking movement but guided in the box n, The ball valve may be held closed by a screw member w, Fig. 4, and abutments x, y may be provided to limit the movement of the diaphragm and ball respectively.
